Hi guys,

Having got round all technical problems im now looking at what i should be backing up.

I know this is dependent on what you server does i.e. Domino server, SQL databases etc.

Is there a website that guides you to what should be being backed up?

When backing up a server should i be looking to backup everything so it is a clone? or should i be backing up just the core files like data, system state???

Im a bit confused to whether a restore will be put down to a machine that already contains the same operating system as your server that was backed up or whether you should be able to restore to a image???

Can anyone enlighten me?

Ive only been working with Veritas for 6 months. I cant speak for you but in our environment, unless the drive has ODBR then you dont need to back up everything on
%SystemRoot% except for Shadow Components and System State. We have several Exchange, SQL and VoIP boxes and each job setup is different. How big is the drive/tapes?
