I have a customer running Windows 95 with an icon in the control panel for a Work Group Post office and the icon is for administration of that MS Post office the icon is Post Office Admin and the 95 machine is on its last leg. What replaced the Admin for MS Workgroup Post Office in Windows 98???? Thanks for your replies. Keith Buchanan

The "Post Office" icon in your control panel is part of the MS Mail support carried forward from Windows 3.11 to Windows 95. The companion component is the "Inbox". These were used only for folder based messaging. In later versions (like 95 OSR2) it was replaced with the MS Exchange Client and ultimately with "Windows Messaging".

However, by the time Windows 98 hit the market M$ was including Outlook Express with Windows (for Internet e-mail) and Outlook with M$ Office (for Exchange or other corporate messaging systems)...so the old "Windows Messaging" components were no longer a default part of the O/S.

Fortunately, you can still load support for Windows Messaging (under 98) by installing it from the Windows 98 CD. I think the installation utility is in the path
<CD-ROM drive letter>:\tools\oldwin95\message\us. Once you run the setup program WMS.EXE you'll have your "Post Office" icon in Control Panel and you'll be able to create and administer a local post office folder.

Sorry for this long winded response. I hope it's helpful.

Chris
