I am setting up a VPN using W2K, however I have a firewall that is blocking most ports. What ports do I have to pen to allow a PPTP tunnel through on my firewall. I know the VPN is etup correctly, because it work insdie the firewall. Any ideas?

PPTP uses port 1723. If you open that and it still doesn't work, you may have to specify that it's a VPN pass through depending on your firewall. PPTP uses IP protocol 47, also knows as GRE (generic routing encapsulation) rather than TCP or UDP. We had a bit of a tough time with it on our firewall. Marc Creviere

Marc, I have a VPN causing me trouble. It allows dial-up clients to connect and browse, but no broadband clients. Do you have any idea what could cause this? Matt Wray

Never mind Marc. I figured it out. Turns out my cable provider is apparently blocking port 1723. Now to fight it out with them. Matt Wray
