Hi

I was wanting to secure my exchange server as much as possible.

What ports do I need to leave open or close to protect exchange server but still allow exchange to fuction properly. I see a lot of LDAP ports but dont know what will happen if I block them.

Any help is apreciated.

Thanks

Charles

What are you blocking Exchange from? Is it on the internet and a domain controller? Need more info. Dan

I have a firewall allowing all ports open to the exchange server. So it is just a simple NAT -- outside IP -- to 10.1.4.5, it is on the Internet in that respect.
The exchange server is a domain controller and a seconday DNS server for the internal clients only.

One MS white paper I have found is Q278339, this artical list TCP/UDP ports used by Exchange 2000. Microsoft has articals on how to secure your Exchange 5.5 sever but I can find anything like that for 2000.

I would like to limit external hacking/virus attacks by limiting access to my exchange server -- if this is possible. I guess my orginal post was a little vague, hope this helps.

Thanks

Charles

You just need 80 for OWA to get in.

25 for smtp. Then 110 if you want POP3. Dan
