What is the Windows System Tray???? 1

I am installing Norton Anti Virus software and it asks me to "Close all programs including those items running in the Windows System Tray" before loading the anti virus software. What is the Windows System Tray????

It is the area in the bottom right of the screen that contains the clock plus other icons of programs that may be running. Right click the icon and you should get an option to close that program or close it through task manager.
