We are a small restaurant business that has 5 remote offices. My Boss wants to make sure that we have the best firewall for little money. Right now we are using the one that is in an OLD Linksys. I was looking at the Cisco PIX 501. Is their something else that you would recommend me look at so I can take it to him>

Thanks
Doug

I would recommend the PIX series. We have a 506 here at our main office and a 501 at a remote office out of state. They both work great. One recommendation though is to get the SmartNet contract on them. Price goes up with this but the support from Cisco is unbelievable. When I was setting these up, if I had a problem, Cisco got back to me within 20 minutes after submitting my case on their site.

Definitely get the PIX - money well spent.

I have about 53 Juniper/Netscreens out there. For the price, they can't be beat, and the come with builtin SSL/VPN and a simple interface a 5th grader could figure out with a bit of time (although the shell is much more powerful).

I'd reccommend going woth one of the Juniper/Netscreens if you want to be cost effective.

I would also stop capitalizing the word "boss"...since you probably work harder than he/she does ;)
