What is SP3?

I just installed all upgrades on my wifes machine and it upgraded sp1, sp2 and also installed 11 files of SP3, all this is for XP Pro. Now I never heard of SP3 at all. I must admit that I never upgraded my own machines for the last two years as they operate through a Linnux router/firewall. I never ever had any virus or trojan etc. getting through the security. However my wifes machine is on a 56 k modem and needs the upgrades. But what is SP3???

I forgot to mention the release date of the SP3 files was march 5 2005, is there a new release out or what is happening???

Office XP Service Pack 3 (SP3) provides the latest updates to Microsoft Office XP. SP3 contains significant security enhancements, in addition to stability and performance improvements. This service pack applies to any level of Office XP. It contains all updates included in Office XP Service Pack 1 (SP1) and Office XP Service Pack 2 (SP2), and updates released after SP2.

Thank you for the very fast reply. I only wondered what it was all about. I had to upgrade my wifes machine as I have to send her machine to Perth. I wanted that all is ok. I am still in Thailand and intend staying here for some time. Thanks again and best regards.

There is no SP3 for Windows XP. For some unknown reason, Microsoft calls some post-SP2 updates 'blahblah-sp3-anotherblahblah', sometimes it can be a little confusing.
