hi,

I have dougt in ERP. what is differnt between 7.5 and 8.0.

Basically, ver 8 is webbased and ver 7.5 is based on a windows client.

For the system administrator this means that ver 7.5 requires a lot more administration (read: work), since all PC's who needs access to PSFT needs to be upgraded from time to time. In ver 8 this is not the case, as nothing is stored on the local PC. Everything is running in the browser.

Unfortunately, performance is a problem (in my experience), as the applicationserver now gets an additional job, - generating all the HTML content and passing this on to the client, instead of just retrieving the data from the DB when necessary.

Ver 8 does bring some nice new features, such as the object based coding and the Component interface, but having worked on both 7.5 and 8 I surely prefer ver 7.5. Faster and more 'transparent'.

Often in ver 8 it can be a nag figuring out exactly where you are (page, modal page, lookup page etc). At least in the windows client, you can see the layers of windows piling up, giving you a sence of orientation.

Hope this gives you an idea.

Differences between 7.5 and 8.0. PeopleSoft for years has played people in the .0 releases as they think they are getting new fuctionality (application level) all they are getting is new Tools(web, app server releases, more tools tables of course) on the application side all you get is the updates/fixes/patches that you didn't apply are the new minor changes. SO if you had a 7.5 DMO with all the updates/fixes/patches applied and did a compare with an 8.0 database you would see minus your customizations of course the same PS_ tables in both.

To summarize
8.0 is worth it IF you are driven for more web apps, but if you care about solid batch or windows OLTP STAY with your release. Performance doesn't get good until the .5 release or .52/.53 it's were everybody should be.
