Hello Madhu,

Seen in a historical context BO started as a purely client-server set-up where you installed the diverse BO components and used a full client installation on your PC to set-up security/users, worked on creating universes and finally created reports that could be distributed to collegues who themselves had the proper BO components installed to refresh the reports, or make some of their own. Back then, you could configure the so called "Document agent" to schedule the printing of specific reports at specific times to a specific printer.
Nowadays the traditional client-server set-up is complemented by the WebIntelligence flavor, which lets you work through the net on reports using only a thin client (a plug-in to your browser)This means that you can distribute a report to someone without having to pay him a visit to install a full client. The interface of webintelligence is quite different than the old interface , trading some functionality with a slicker appearance.
The module "Document agent" has been renamed "Broadcast agent", in line with the extended possibilities given by working the the worldwide web.

Please note that there is a massive amount of data published about BO, which you can retrieve through the net, you could start at their corporate site (
