I'm running Win98SE and I find this file (bgcshik.exe)in my start-up file listing in system configuration. When I uncheck it and restart it's back. I have deleted the file everywhere I can find it including the registry files. I've done searches on the internet and can't find any record of this file. Any clues?

Have you tried running a spyware removal tool such as Ad-aware? Go here:

Be sure to run the "check for updates" option before you scan in the tool.

Yes I have. I've run Ad-Aware, Spy Doctor. It's a non-detect by those programs.

Try booting to safemode and end task (CTRL-ALT-DEL) on everything except Explorer. Search for that file on the C: drive and delete any occurrences. Then go into the registry to the following location:

HKEY_Local_Machine\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion

Search all of the Run folders for anything suspicious. Be sure to backup each folder to a .reg file before deleting or making any changes. It might not be listed here as bgcshik.exe, so you'll need to use your better judgement. Also, don't use MSCONFIG instead because it just tries to move the entry instead of deleting it.

In addition, do another search throughout the entire registry for "bgcshik" leaving off the "exe" at the end. Remove any occurrences.

Exit the registry and open up Ad-aware. Make sure the scanning definitions are today's date (if not, run the update). Scan for spyware and delete anything that it finds.

Finally, shutdown and reboot into Normal mode.
