what is audio upmixing

I am trying to export to mpegdvd2 but I get an error that says that audio upmixing is not allowed. What does that mean.

Audio upmixing is converting an audio track from say, MP3 quality, to 5.1 or 6.1.

I have this same problem. I haven't changed any audio settings and I can't see where I'm upmixing. Were you able to solve this problem?
