I found a "hiberfil.sys" file of 4 GB. It was just created today. I think it has something to do when I accidentlally drag the "WINDOWS" folder (but I did not move it or copy it to anywhere to my best knowledge.)

I don't think it is something I need but cannot delete it since it is used by some process. Please help to identify which process is using it so I can delete it.

Also, non related. When I try to post this message. The response was horriable. I cannot even see my typing echo until after 4-5 wall seconds. Is it my ISP (comcast) performance issue or there is it something wrong with my system? I also sufferred from slow paging in explorer browser.

Well, I am not an expert, but if you cannot see you typing a you type it that is a system problem. It means your system is REALLY slow or bogged down with some other process/processes. Same thing with Explorer Browser. That is you system and has nothing to do with your ISP

About the file though, I have never heard of it and have no clue what it does.

Thanks for the input.

To clarify, I have no problem in other apps. The slow paging and cannot see immediate typing echo occurs just in browser. Any idea?

If it just happens with those programs, I haven't the slightest idea what is going on. But I can run you through a few things that I always take when problems like this pop up.

-I always check Windows Update and install whatever I do not have, unless it is obviously not needed.

-Press Ctrl+Alt+Delete and check how much of the memory and CPU the different programs are hogging. If you have one program that is taking up a majority of your system resources you might want to look into that and see if it is something don't need.

FWIW, hiberfil.sys is where Windows stores the contents of your RAM when your computer enters hibernation. When your computer leaves hibernation, this data is returned to your RAM. That being said, the size of hiberfil.sys should be approximately the same size a your RAM - do you have 4 GB of RAM installed? If you disable hibernation, the file should be removed when you reboot.

As far as your other problem, meticulously follow all the steps of faq608-4650

Hi smah
I have the same file in my root directory but it is just over 1GB in size. I do have 1GB of ram but my pc does not, and is not setup for, hibernation. I too would like to remove this huge file but am a bit dubious at the moment.

Ockerb

Control Panel, Performance & Maintenance, Power Options, Hibernate tab, deselect 'Enable hibernation', OK and reboot. Hiberfil.sys should be gone.

smah,

I successfully deleted the hiberfil.sys file per your instruction. Thanks!

Also thanks on the other thread.

I can not find the SpyBot to download at
Ater I just ran cwshredder and AdAware, that did not fix slow typing echo and slow paging in my browswer (OS: ME).

I guess I need the SpyBot to do a complete clean up of spywares. Your help is needed and much appreciated.

Turkbear,

Thx.

I read it on another thread that 1.3 not stable; and that I will better off with the older 1.2 verison - no where to be found.

Is it true?!
