Hi to anyone who can help. We have a Xerox 8850 engineering
plotter. Using Win98 and ACAD 2000. It's working fine, but could be better. The XES.com site has "heidi drivers" available for download. I'm wondering if I should use one.
1)why were they designed in the first place?
2)why should I use one?
3)what specifically are they for?
4)is HEIDI an acronym? If so what is it?
Basically I dont know a damn thing about Heidi drivers.
Thanks to any help.

Hi candcraft:

It depends on your system. If it has a $ophisticated video card it would benefit from them. I'd recommend getting them directly from Autocad.
Dunno' the acronym definition for Heidi...but guessing the last part is enhanced idybb== display integration...they have some very well-paid ppl over at AutoCAD to decide such things.

From AutoCAD's help file:

AutoCAD uses the Heidi 3D Graphics System developed by Autodesk as the default graphics display system. If you are using a different graphics display system, the options in the 3D Graphics System Configuration dialog box are different from the ones described here. See your vendor documentation for more information about configuring your graphics display.

Inside AutoCAD hit F1 and when help comes up, choose the Index tab and type in heidi...and follow the trail.

is another excellent reference point for info...and within it Services and Support will lead you to most anything you want to know about AutoCAD if you're patient and follow the leads/links.
Autodesk also maintains quite a few online newsgroups concerning their products and there are others available through most ISP's news servers, accessible with a newsreader (Forte Agent, Outlook Express just to name 2)
You'll also find links on the site I listed above to the online side servers for the newsgroups.
