What exactly is disk staging? How is it related to Disk Storage Units?

It's a two tier process. Disk staging is backing up to a disk storage unit and then at a later time copying the image to tape. The xfer of data is much faster to a disk and so that allows for a shorter "down" time for a cold backup or perhaps consolidate data from a slow network before it is copied to tape.
