Anybody know what DVD format is used for every DVD movie you would rent/buy from a store? I know about DVD-R/RW, DVD+R/RW and DVD-RAM but how is it that major motion picture DVD's play in any DVD player?

They are silver pressed DVD's . they are not DVD-R's or DVD+R 's . What we use is not what commercial companies use.
Since DVD's are pressed, its a different type of disc. Waht we do is author and burn them.

Since the DVD's are pressed, all DVD players (should) recognize them. Its more of the "manfuacturers" following the media type; not hte media corresponding to the manufacturer's settings.
