What does it do when Access Cascade Updates/Deletes related fields ...

Hello,

Quick question ...When creating relationships in access and you select referential integrity, you also have to options to cascade update related fields and cascade delete related records ... I believe I have an idea of what these do, but am not totally sure. Does anyone mind filling me in ... I appreciate it. (^_^)

Hey Jedi!

Your assumptions are probably correct. Cascade update will change information stored in a related table if that information is changed in the main table. This usually affects only the PK since that is all that is stored in other tables. Cascade delete will delete all related records in tables when the main record is deleted in the main table. This is not usually used since most companies like getting the warning that a customer has an open order if they are trying to delete them (as an example).
