In light of the recent news about internet explorer's security flaws, I've switched my security zone setting to prompt before scripting ActiveX controls marked "safe for scripting"
Now whenever I browse many well known trusted sites (cnn for example), I get prompted with "a script is accessing some software (an activeX control) on this page which has been marked safe for scripting. do you want to allow this?"
I am surprised that so many sites find it necessary to use activeX controls since I often use non-microsoft browsers as well.
My question: how do I find out what activeX control a page is trying to execute? (i.e. what do I search for in the html source?)
Also, who has the ability to mark a control "safe for scripting" - can a hacker do that?
