Our main office is connected to a branch location via vpn. It was two Watchguard Sohos connecting the two but I recently replaced one with a 3com 3CR856 VPN/Firewall. This was to allow users to create a PPTP VPN connection from home. I'm pretty sure I had everything set up correctly on the 3com and was able to connect to the remote office and connect from home. The problem is that the VPN connection to the other office gets cut off after random, short periods of time (20 min. or so). I'm awaiting a response from 3com's support and suspect a hardware problem, but I wanted to see if anyone here has experienced something similar. Oh, and I've looked at the logs on both devices and haven't found anything helpful.

Oh and I forgot to add something. I don't know if this is related but when viewing the 3com device's web interface it will sometimes hang, especially around the time it drops the vpn connection. And I'm viewing its web interface from the local side, not the remote side of the vpn. The time on the 3com also doesn't seem to sync with a time server, with one exception. I noticed once where the time was correct and a few minutes later (again I believe after dropping the connection) the time/date was wrong again.

Also, the first thing I did when I got it was upgrade the firmware to the latest version so that's likely not the problem. After writing all this it seems hardware is the likely cause. I just want to make sure I'm not missing something. I promised our users they'd soon have access to files from home and they're getting restless [surprise].
