My mouse cursor is weird - after a while using my computer (i don't know how long), I notice that the mouse cursor looks corrupted - there are pixels of blue, red, yellow etc hovering with it, as if they are part of it. It only happens to the pointer cursor though, not the others, although the other day I noticed it affecting the text cursor (and NOT the normal pointer).
I first noticed this a fair while back. Since then my computer completely crashed and I formatted and reinstalled windows ME, but I notice this weird thing is still happening.
The mouse works perfectly fine, it's just these pixels of colour showing up, which is kind of annoying.
A restart of the computer rectifies the problem, but later I notice that it has come back.
I can't remember when this first started happening, I just noticed it one day. Like I said, it only appears after a while of using my computer (not straight away when I turn it on).

Why would this be happening, even after a format?

I have the TweakUI control panel thing, which has a "Rebuild Icons" option. Is there something I can get with a "Rebuild Cursors" option???

I will start looking for patterns if this will help you help me. Like I said, I don't even notice when it happens, I just suddenly notice the weird cursor.

OH YEAH,
There's another (related) thing I just remembered. It is similar to the mouse cursor problem.
When viewing pages in Internet Explorer 6, sometimes the text has some pixels of black missing, so the text looks 'broken' (do you understand me?). When I hilight the text these 'breaks' disappear. Once again, not a fatal problem, but slightly annoying.
I only notice this in Internet Explorer.

I have Windows Millenium, 256K RAM, 800MHZ processor, 2x18.6G HDD, Internet Explorer 6.0.2600.0000 [pc3]

Get a new mouse, or try one you know is working correctly.

The mouse works perfectly, it's just the cursor on the screen with a problem. [pc3]

Hi
The problem could be from your vid card and not the mouse.
As you have the problem even after re-formatting, it points to the vid card itself and not the drivers. However update them first before testing my theory with another card.
The other thing could be that you are using a very high refresh rate that Vid card or the monitor can just manage.
Is the problem still there in Safe Mode?

Have you tried updating the driver for the mouse or change drivers and see if the problem is still there.

I bought my computer brand new just over half a year ago.

My monitor resolution is 1024 x 768 @ 16 bit colour.
The refresh rate is 85 HZ (in Display settings, 85.22 on Monitor's OSD).

I've been on the internet for 1hr 10 mins now, and the problem hasn't occurred yet.

My video card is "NVIDIA RIVA TNT2 Model 64". I'll try looking for updates. When I formatted, I didn't need to install anything - Windows automatically detected the card. But I don't think this is the problem as it was happening before the format.

I haven't tried in Safe Mode, I will when I have some spare time (as I don't know how long it is before it occurs, or if it even will, and waiting forever in Safe Mode would be frustrating). [pc3]

Print this out.

Boot into Safe Mode - (tap F8 twice per second during a restart; Choose option number three (3) in the Windows Startup dialog box using the arrow keys below the Delete key, and strike the Enter key; Click Ok when prompted);

Right click My Computer; Point to Properties; Click the Device Manager tab; Click the plus sign beside CDROM; Highlight each device inside CDROM, each in turn, and click the Add/Remove button until no main CDROM entry is present.

Repeat with each device below that Display Adapters etc. (see exceptions below), removing all duplicates especially. If duplicates are present remove all those entries inside a main heading.

Do Not bother Hard Disk Controllers, Sound, Video and Game controllers, System Devices entries, and USB controllers.

Restart via the Start button and Windows will redetect, refresh and only replace those devices needed. There is no use for 2 keyboards, CDROM etc. as those duplicates cause some of the errors you describe.

Hi,

I had a similar problem to yours and I found out that it was a bad connection ring in the chipboard of the video card and I had to have it replaced. That fixed the problem. Is your computer still under warranty, perhaps the company you bought it from will replace your video card.

Hope this helps! NATE
