can someone please help me with this weird line status...
my 2600 cisco router gave me the next line when i did:
sho ip int br

serial0 reset down

one more thing, when i check:
show controller serial0

it says it receives all ones, AIS.

This seems like a Telco issue. Open a ticket with your carrier (ISP) and have them troubleshoot the line. You could also try a loopback plug on the interface and see if it comes up, if it does, then your WIC is ok.

what do you mean by a Telco issue, can you please explain, because the problem got fixed by the isp, but what does the reset status stands for

This could be a wiring issue. What you need to do is make a loopback plug, and using this plug, test all the segments of this line to the NIU (where your ISP brings in the circuit), so >>

Step 1> Plug the loopback plug into the router CSU/DSU
If you get interface up/down (looped) or up/up, the router CSU/DSU is good
go to step 2

Step 2> Plug the cabe back in, and plug the loopback plug on the other end of that cable, you may have to use a coupler to get this done, and see if you get the same result.

Step 3> if you can loopback successfully all the way to Telco's NIU, then the problem is not on your end. They may have to send a tech out to check line voltage and etc., but that would not be your problem already.

Telco's always like to say that the isue is fixed, but that may not be the case. Reset usually means a problem with the circuit.

i think i didn't explain myself right, what i meant to say that the isp fixed the line and the status at the moment is up up, but i would like to understand what did the router try to tell me by that reset status.

you said that the reset is a circuit problem, you mean a problem with the router's circuit? could it be that the AIS created the reset status?

AIS did create the reset status. AIS is an alarm that the circuit is not functioning properly. It was probably receiving all 1s or something.

but the question still still remains, why reset and not a simple down status?

Because there was a carrier detect, right? It was receiving something, just not what it's suppose to, plus was this line a new one, or did u just have an issue with an existing line? Probably an existing. This may also depend on the code level on the router, as I don't know what type of router you have and/or code you're running.

well i did find the answer. what i understand is that a serial interface goes to reset once it's unpluged, which is the case with AIS, the modem the router connects to was dead and so it didn't send anything and the line went to reset.

btw, i have a cisco 2600 with IOS 12 (i'm not sure about the version).
