Hi,

I picked up a Sony Vaio Lamptop model PCG-R505EL used and it works great, except this one glitch. Xp appears to keep losing the CDRW-DVD drive. When I insert a disc, it doesn't detect it and its as if I did nothing. I check the device manager, and the drive is there, I check my computer and the drive is still listed. The only way to cure the problem is for me to delete it from the device manager and reboot. This only fixes the problem temporarily as it messes up again on the next reboot. The only thing that I notuce when it messes up is that in my computer instead of listing the drive as "DVD-CDRW" it changes it to "CD-Drive". I have done a complete erase\reload of the OS and its fully updated, bios, drivers, etc. Can someone help me?

make sure to install all the programs that are associated with this drive example nero if it came with it. Some of those are dependent on those installations. Also check the manufactures website sometimes they explain it already if alot of people are having problems similar to that with that drive. Gl

Perhaps installing the aspi layer from Adaptec will help.

Andy.
