Website and DNS

I'm sure this issue is simple, but of course I make everything difficult for myself.

We have a very important website that we go to and they just changed webhosts, and now we can only access the website by IP and not by name. I cleared out the DNS cache on our server (win2k) by going to the DNS under Admin Tools, but I really have no idea what else to do. Does anyone have any suggestions?

See thread thread96-517226 could add an a host record pointing to the new location of the site.

Is it an external ISP hosting the site? Has it been recently moved. Possiblly the higher DNS servers have not made the changes for the new site. Hewissa

Internal DNS or External? Internal site or External? Do you know the FQDN of the site?

It's an external website, external DNS. I already contacted the webmasters of the site and they confirmed that they switched webhosts, ISPs, and everything, and our DNS hasnt updated itself in order to pick up the new website's info.
They said it should only take 24 hours for it to refresh, but its been over 2 weeks.

Is yur DNS forwarding to a higher DNS server? Has that (the outside server) updated its DNS cache?

I don't believe it is forwarding to a higher DNS server, but I'm not sure how I can tell.
Has it updated its DNS cache? I dont think it has.. only for the fact that I tried to clear it out here.. and I still cant pull up that website by name. I thought maybe that i wouldnt have to call up the hosts of our T1 line, but maybe I have to? I just thought maybe there was some sort of trick I could do so we can pull up that website.

If not..Did you call the DNS service company?

To see if your DNS is forwarding, open the DNS MMC (or admin program) right click the server and click Forwarders. It should list the T1 DNS server, or something.

Chances are the T1 providers DNS has not updated it yet, or has it configured in correctly.

Apparently we host our own DNS (sorry for the confusion). There's nothing in there indicating that our T1 host has anything to do with DNS, and I seem to remember the guy who built the servers mentioned that we host our own DNS (funny how things suddenly come back to you).
I noticed the forward lookup zones (theres a few sites in there already). Should I be creating a new zone for scrubtime? I took a glance at it already and it came up with 3 options, but I'm not sure which one to choose from or if this is even the right direction.

Although Forward Lookup Zones are in your DNS, check to see if "Forwarders" are also there. Click the properties of the server then the Forwarders tab.

Yes create a Forward Lookup Zone for scrubtime. In it create an A Host record for

http://www and

specify the sites external ip. Hewissa
