It looks like Webshots has been hacked or infected as users running Webshots start FTP downloads and installs that Norton AV then stops when it finds downloader.Trojan.

I hate 3rd party Screen and background apps - but users will be users.

Anyone seen or heard of problems with Webshots?

Here's an article that talks briefly about it:
In general, Webshots ins't as bad as other malware programs, tho it can easily slow down a computer, especially older ones. It also downloads the images constantly, thus using bandwidth.
As it's not an actual security risk (no reporting activity, etc.) the only real problem with it in system resource wasting.
I usually recommend getting rid of it.

Thanks. I have recommeded (and always do) they prevent their people from using it. I know the pitfalls.

But starting last Friday, it seems that the standard download that Webshots does goes to an infected or hacked site as it immediately tries to download and install a few know trojans.

I was looking for someone to confirm this.

Nothing turned up on SARC.com regarding webshots, so is it possible that they're getting they're downloads from somewhere other than webshots.com? (for instance, are they getting a bad version from Kazaa or another p2p program?)
Still looking for something specific...

A machine here with webshots, no trojans/virii present. No problems at all.
