i just built my webserver. it is a linux box runnng apache.. i think the DNS works..

my URL ws purchased at godaddy... that is where i have to name my nameservers etc...

my NS is on the new box... when i go to GODADDY - i will supply them with:
a name : my static ip
the c names for email, smpt and pop will be the full hostname, correct?

i know i am missing something... pls add your input, it is much appreciated...

Is this a subdomain? Can you supply your website url, as well as your static IP for the site? I will do some lookups on it and give more feedback.

Hope This Helps,

Good Luck!

i was able to get the http working - having email problems now

url is landmarkaerials.com
ip is 24.225.250.54

First, you don't have an A Record setup for mail. That's why mail isn't working. Is 24.225.250.54 the external IP for your mail server as well? If so, you need to setup an A Record for mta.landmarkaerials.com pointing to 24.225.250.54.

Also, you will need to insure that your ISP has a RDNS entry that will reverse resolve 24.225.250.54 to mta.landmarkaerials.com.

Hope This Helps,

Good Luck!

thank you! I will get cracking....

my current set up is:

CNAMES
Host Points To TTL Actions

smtp mta.landmarkaerials.com 3600

MX (Mail Exchange)
Priority Host Goes To TTL Actions
0 @ mta.landmarkaerials.com 3600
10 @ mailstore1.secureserver.net 3600

here is my zone file:
landmarkaerials.com. IN SOA ns1.landmarkaerials.com. admin.landmarkaerials.com. (
// Do not modify the following lines!
2006081401
28800

)

// Replace the following line as necessary:
// ns1 = DNS Server name
// mta = mail server name
// landmarkaerials.com = domain name
landmarkaerials.com. IN NS ns1.landmarkaerials.com.
landmarkaerials.com. IN MX 10 mta.landmarkaerials.com.

// Replace the IP address with the right IP addresses.
www IN A 10.10.10.21
mta IN A 10.10.10.21
ns1 IN A 10.10.10.21

my reverse lookup is: rev.0.10.10.10.in-addr.arpa (is this correct - the machine ip is 10.10.10.21)

the file looks lik this:
// The number before IN PTR example.com is the machine address of the DNS server. in my case, it's 1, as my IP address is 192.168.0.1.
@ IN SOA ns1.landmarkaerials.com. admin.landmarkaerials.com. (
