Hello everyone.

I am running Windows Server 2003 DNS and the server is behind the firewall with fake IP.

I have configured on ISA 2004 a server publishing rule for the specific dns server in order to redirect incoming dns traffic to the internal dns server.

The problem is that some outside internet users report that the web site sometimes appears (is working) and sometimes disappears (is not working).

I asked one of them to ping and he told me that it returned "Ping request could not find host
Any ideas what is the cause of the problem?

Thank you in advance

Start from the outside and look inbound.

Check your NS records, and if they are registered correctly. There are several websites that allow you to DNS query yourself from their perspective. If your NS record checks out, check the SOA record for the serial number and make sure it corresponds to the servers' SOA. If these check out, you should be able to see your servers' log and see those test queries.
