I run an intranet and am looking to tighten up searching a bit, but am struggling to find a decent resource for advice. Ideally I want web pages to be searchable via meta tags, and all office documents and pdfs also to be searchable. I'm pretty sure Index Server can handle all this but the integration with IIS (e.g. sample web search pages) don't seem to be there like it was in NT, and the help is less than helpful.

Can anyone point me to a decent resource on searching win2k servers via index service?

Cheers,

Tony

I have never seen Index server used in this fashion. I have always noticed the limits of Index server and it will only search what's in your website that you flag to be indexed. However, Microsofts Share Point Portal Server will do what you are wanting. this is a newer product that is not part of windows 2000 or 2003 and must be purchased seperate. This product replaces the search capability that came with Site Server which would also do this. Share Point can crawl any server and file area, whether it be Microsoft, Unix, Lotus Notes, or what.

I'll take a look at it - although these claims are made for Index server as well - but it doesn't seem too easy to configure.

I know what will happen if I ask my employers to buy something..I'll still be using index server!
