I'm writing some web pages to do some reporting and statistics about Legato backups.

I am also trying to get some functionality in there to allow the webpages to control the remote jukebox/robot via the supplied commands. I can do these myself but not via the webpages as they need root access to run the commands.

Is there a way to promote the apache user to superuser status to run the commands?

The web pages are on a Sun box and I'm writing all the scripts in PERL. Access to the pages is secure so security isnt a major concern before anyone shouts ;) I'm not a UN*X guru but I know my way around.

Anyone got any ideas?
