Web mail works but outlook doesn't

Ok, I have an install of exchange server 5.5/sp4. I can connect to the web client and send and recieve just fine. But when I try to connect to it from outlook it connects but does not see nor download any messages. When I send an e-mail it goes off and is never to be seen again.

Notes: When I connected to MS Mail Connector is wasn't able to find the share //server/maildat$. I made the share but that didn't fix it. Should I reinstall from scratch.(It's a new install)

Please help! Thanks in advance.

Use the Message Tracking option in Exchange and see if the message ever gets to a server and where it goes next.
