Hi,

I'm commissioning a lowend server W2k server.

Raid 5 using a Adaptec AAR-2400A IDE raid controller my choices for the harddrive are the

Western Digital HDD 60GB 2MB Cache x 4 or
the Western Digital HDD 60GB 8MB Cache x 4

Can anyone suggest which drive would be better in this configuration?

Ash.

I don't think there'd be enough difference in server performance [like there would be with gaming] so I'd save several bucks and put in a bigger power supply and some case fans to keep the 4 drives cool.

Go for the 8mb. I've been running an 40gig/8mb WD and although the specs aren't kicking a 2mb's ass... it still is faster. The 8mb drives have different Algorithms written into the firmware enabling better reasponse. They think what you may want to chose next and load it into memory.
