Ways to prevent new windows from launching during folders naigation

From the registry, where is the key to edit so that during navigation of folders via windows explorer, there would not be launching of new windows to browse the accessed folders.

E.g. upon clicking on c:\ (1st new windows pops up)
then click on C:\windows (2nd new windows pops up with the windows contents )
clicking on c:\windows\system32 (3rd new windows pops up showing system32 contents).

Each clicking on new subfolders will trigget new windows to be pop up.

Where is the registry key to edit? Please advise. thx.

I don't know about the specific registry key, but while you're in your explorer window (my computer) you can go to 'Tools - Folder Options' and select "Open each folder in the same window" on the first tab.

Staticfactory" has given you the easiest solution to your problem. I just wanted to add this bit of a quirk/bug in XP, and that is that if you ever have cause to use Safe Mode, then the user with which you login to Safe Mode as will find that next time that same user is logged into Normal Mode the setting to open windows in the same window is automatically set.
