Well, Im very pleased.

Customer wanted remote VPN phone (9620) So I thought I would see if the H323 remote stuff worked on a little Watchguard XTM25

With a simple policy set on the Watchguard the phone was working in no time.

Excellent!

Moral of the story - always use good firewalls and routers for your installs. :)

What kind of router is at the remote phone end? Glad to hear someone got this to work...

I have dreamed a dream, but now that dream has gone from me.

the router at the remote end was a basic netgear adsl modem / router.

Where do you buy watchguard trade sean? Sick of using draytek.

We use Wickhill.

We only use WG with our managed broadband from easynet. great for site to site vpn and SIP and H323. Dont use the proxies, only the packet filters. Proxies mess with your packets.

otherwise there is a WG forum on TT - me being the main active member in there of course :)

Thx for the stars! :)

Oh and by the WG silver support - and add a bit extra for yourself when you resell it to your customer. Also wickhill support is often really good and you will need to sign up on the WG site to activate your devices. There is plenty of literature and training online as well.

If you truly need some arms and legs we can help with any installs you might do in on this side of the UK. Scan my QR code.

Thanks Sean appreciate it. is the QoS robust and easy to configure?

QoS is a bit of a grey area with voice going over the internet. We never implement it as we generally wouldnt put day to day data over the connection. The WG will do multi WAN do split your voice / SIP traffic and DATA over two broadband conenctions. Its worth the investment, and your expectations are easier with the customer. for the price of X amount / mth extra to invest in your voice network, its worth it.

agreed, we generally put in 2 connections voice/data. But on either large sites with a good expensive connection being shared we need to implement QoS, and on really small sites (which are price conscious) we also need to implement it. The draytek did qos pretty good (at times).
