If you take a DS phone from two systems with different software levels this could cause your system to reboot or worse need the DTE Process

I don't think so. Module, yes, if your module was created after the existing switch release (ie: DS30v2) because the base code doesn't recognize the module. But, not an individual phone. Unless you're running a very old/unstable release of software on that switch.

I will find out more details and post this information

Just to add..

I have seen a 5410 reboot at least 2 seperate 403 DS modules. Brand new phone, system running 3.1 (65). A bit worrying when 1 phone reboots an entire system...

I put it down to a bad phone as I, nor the people above, have come across before...

I've had an issue where, while replacing a Norstar phone system (also uses the wh/blu pair on a jack) that the system would get stuck in a boot-loop, as some of the old phones were still plugged in. Unrelated, but thought it was kinda funny.

Lesson Learned:
Avaya doesn't like Nortel. :)

I have seen 54xx series phones show "Incompatible" in the display on 2.1 software versions, but I have never seen the rebooting problem caused by a phone (but it wouldn't surprise me.)

Connecting a network card to a DS port will also cause the DS module to enter a reboot cylce
(this can easily happen with mobile useres connecting thier laptops to the wrong skt!)
