I have a client who got this error message twice. Once while she was copying files to an external hard drive and once when she opened her e-mail.

Warning Event Notification
The total hard drive capacity in your
system has increased. This typically
does NOT indicate a hardware failure.
Contact your help desk if you did
not personally change your system's
hard drive configuration or disable
devices in system setup.

I had her do a virus scan which came back clean. She hasn't received it again but I would like to know what caused it. I've checked Microsoft's website and did several searchs and came up empty.

She's running Windows XP, sp 2.

Anyone ever see this message before? If so, did you find out what it was?

Thanks

Might be malware, might be legit. Did you add a hard drive to the system?

If not, make sure it's not malware...

According to this link it is something to do with plugging a USB external drive in before the computer is powered up, or removing it after it is powered down.

"These messages are generated by Dell OpenManage, software which monitors your computer hardware to warn you of developing problems before they become serious and result in the loss of data".

Thanks everyone for information.
