Want to Duplicate S8500/G450 1

I just installed two new S8500's running CM 5.2 SP 1 with 2 G450's. I ordered all of this with full redundancdy (hard drives, power supplies, etc..) and I have two Cisco data switches the system is plugged into. I have split the S8500's and the G450's over the two Cisco switches. One S8500 is the Main server and the second S8500 is the LSP. Now, I want to setup the S8500's to be duplicated on the Cisco switches, so does anyone have the details on how to configure the S8500 duplication I am looking for. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yumm, S8500's are not setup to be duplicated.... you would need S87XX's for that.

Also, the S8500 although it can support multiple "Control Networks" (Control Network A, and Control Network B), those apply to using G650 media gateways with IPSI's. Since you have G450's, those MUST user PE (Processor Ethernet).

Your 2nd S8500 that is the LSP will get its translations from the Main S8500, and if you setup a node-name for the "S8500-LSP", assign it an IP in the node-names, and then add this node-name to the "IP-Network-Region", on page 2, your IP phones will be given this as a "secondary gatekeeper", and in the even your Main S8500 does not responf, the IP Phones would try the S8500LSP next...

So I think that accomplishes what you are asking about, hopefully.

Also, on the G450 MgC list ("show mgc"), make sure your LSP is listed as a secondary...

"clear mgc list"

"set mgc list 10.10.10.235,10.10.10.234" (IPs used are examples)

(don't forget to do a "copy running-config startup-config" to save your changes for the next powerdown/rerboot)

if the first (main S8500) doesn't respond, then the G450 will try and register to the S8500 LSP as an alternate.

Mitch, as always you provide rock solid help. On the G450's there are 2 NIC's (5 and 6). I have been told I can run NIC 5 to one Cisco and NIC 6 to another Cisco to provide duplication and redundancy. Perhaps I needed to state I am looking to duplicate the G450's or make them redundant. Let me know what you think.

sure thing.

"set port redundancy 10/5 10/6 LAN-Redundancy"

and there are also commands for setting the switchover interval, and switchback interval.

What this does is only one of the 2 LAN connecitons will be active at a time, if one cable or port goes down, then the other port will go active - using same IP address.

Take a look:

CLIENT-001(super)# set port redundancy
Too few parameters
set port redundancy -- Set port redundancy - insert/remove a port redundancy entry
Usage: set port redundancy {mod_num/port_num} {mod_num/port_num} {on/off} [redundancy_name]
Example:
Console> set port redundancy 4/2 3/4 on server1
server1: Port 3/4 is redundant to port 4/2.
Console>

CLIENT-001(super)#

AND

CLIENT-001(super)# set port redundancy-intervals help
Set port redundancy-intervals commands:
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Usage: set port redundancy-intervals <min-time-between-switchovers> { <switchback interval> | none }

<min-time-between-switchovers> - The minimum gap between redundancy switchovers
for each pair (in seconds).
<switchback- interval> - The period the primary port link has to be 'up' before the system switches back (in seconds).
If the value is 'none' the system switches back only if the secondary link fails
.
CLIENT-001(super)#
CLIENT-001(super)# show port redundancy

Redundancy Name Primary Port Secondary Port Status
----------------- -------------- ---------------- --------
LAN-Redundancy 10/5 10/6 primary

Minimum Time between Switchovers: 5
Switchback interval: 5

Mitch,

Thank you very much. This was, thanks to you, very easy to setup. I do notice on both the G450's 10/5 is set to half 100M and 10/6 is set to full 1G. I am wondering if I need to get the Network guys to check the Cisco as it appears we have a mismatch.

set port autonegotiation 10/5 disable"
"set port autonegotiation 10/6 disable"

should put both ports in 100MB / Full Duplex for you...
that's how I have been doing it for a long time, once you take it out of "auto/auto", it defaults to 100F

Here is what I ran on both G450's and both port are 100MB/ Full Duplex.

"set port negotiation 10/5 disable"
"set port negotiation 10/6 disable"

Thank you Mitch..you rule!
