I have a Dell Poweredge 1400sc with a P3 933Mhz, 133MHz bus....and I want to add another P3 933Mhz, 133Mhz processor to the server. If I power down and stick the chip in I am unable to reboot. I can't find any dell documentation saying that it won't auto detect the change. Does anyone know if I'm missing anything...besides looking for a jumper setting or a bios setting?

In Windows NT Server 4.0 you had to reload the OS for it to pick up both processors....there was a service in the resource kit that would somehow detect the second processor without having to reload the OS but I have never tried it or heard anything about the success of that...

As for Windows 2000 Server, I believe you may have the same scenerio as above but I am not 100% sure on that.

In the BIOS at boot, does it see the second processor?? If it does and the OS doesn't that is the problem I am referring to above.

Let me know what you find out or I will let you know. I am in the process of updating both of our servers with second processors, NT4 nad NT2000.....
