i am facing an issue:

i have a setup like 30 machines on network, and all are in same Vlan but diferent locations. i am running WOL on my machine to wake up the shutdown machine, its not happning on our network.

But if i try connecting PC to PC with a stright cable its working, and in same way i took one L2 switch and connected two machine on that switch i tried the same it works.

i am confused why it is not working on network,

Please suggest.

Thank you

This is because broadcast packets aren't forwarded by routers by default. So the WOL packet never reach the remote sites.

Unless you can let your router forward broadcast messages it will never work.

Good luck.
