Hi,

We have a windows 2000 terminal server running.
It's connected to a 100mbit switch.

Number of concurrend users is about 15. They use several program's with connections to it's own database on a different server.

Is it usefull to place 2 network cards in the server so that the LAN traffic has it's own card and the RDP traffic has it's own card. Or will the speed gains be so low that you hardly notice it ?

Richard

I doubt you will gain much that is noticeable.

You might team them to burst.

You won't notice anything. Stick a second card in and team them for fault tolerance.

Hi how do you team the cards for fault tolerence,
I have 2 cards in our win2k server, 1xgb 1x100mb I run the net work off the gig card but it seems a good idea to have the othe connected just in case

Some lead, some follow....I just Hope! :)

FYI, got a brand new Dell server with 2 nics teamed. Company we got it through set it all up for us. 2 weeks after they left, users found at times they could not authenticate to the domain. After several weeks of pulling my hair out trying to find why one day they could and the next day they couldn't, I realized that when I re-booted the new server, they could authenticate using the old server while the new one was down. Did a little more research and found the new server was sending out bad packets. Turns out ONE of the nics went bad, so the concept of teaming didn't really do me a heck of a lot of good. The server was still able to access the network and the internet, but the bad packets were fouling up the authentication. Un-teamed, un-plugged, worked with one nic from then on.
