A strange one I know, but a colleague wants to install W2K Server on a laptop in order to be able to demo some software to clients. The laptop has a pretty good specification - 256Mb RAM, P4 processor etc but I'm just not sure that it will run server.

Has anyone got any opinions?

Cheers

Pete

I run Win 2k Pro on an old Toshiba Satellite laptop with a K2 350 processor on it. I don't see any real problems (aside from possible hardware config problems).

Since it's being used to demo something, and it's not a "production machine" giving out DNS and DHCP all the time, I don't see a major issue with it.

Just check the Hardware Compatibility List on MS'es site to see if the hardware is there or not.

After that, there's only one way to find out -- INSTALL! J.R. Juiliano

Actually i find running Server on laptop is a bit quicker than running Pro. you have enough ram, i was running it under 128MB on a p2 266 Dell Latitude for testing purpose

you don't need to have DNS or DHCP running at all...
no worry
