W2K professional won't switch off.

Some months (years?) ago this was an issue with W2K professional. There was a lot on this website about it and it appeared that updates from MS eventually killed the problem.

Beause when I later completely re-installed W2K and applied all the most recent (then) cumulative updates the problem disappeared.

Suddenly I have it back. Upon attempting to power down in the normal manner I eventually end up with a blue screen with the cursor frozen. I then use the reboot button - but as the system starts to come up I kill it with the ON/OFF button.

Any ideas anyone?
 
Possibly a hung application. Check your Event log to be certain that a critical error is not happening at shutdown and what Win2k is really trying to do is to give you a BSOD message.


You might find the registry hive cleaner service resolves the issue:
