What applications do you want to run on your operating systems?
XP Pro is better for multimedia applications/games. However it has higher system requirements than 2K Pro so an identically specced system would run faster with 2K than XP Pro.
However, XP Pro still has problems working in a Novell environment with roaming profiles (MS blame Novell and vice versa), but 2K works perfectly. There may be other compatibility problems that I am unaware of.
Bottom line: I prefer 2K Pro, because it doesn't fall over and just works. XP doesn't fall over much compared to the old 9x kernel systems, but I don't like the child handholding attitude that MS has set up as standard.
I like XP Pro better than W2K. All of my Air Force units PC's are configured with W2K which works fine for applications but XP works better for gaming. I upgraded all my home machines to XP Pro and everything is running great and for the most part stable.
Which operating to use is really dependent on what you intend on using your computer for. Applications use W2K while Gaming use XP.
2k is better. XP is bloated and really doesn't run well without 512RAM. It is too cute and assumes you are an idiot. Even when XP is tweaked to the max, W2k is still a better performer.
i concur; in a business environment where compatability, integration, robustness, stability, and security (as secure as you can be with microsoft anyway) W2K Pro is way to go; i just wanted to verify i was on the right track...thanks
