I am running W2K pro SP2. System is stable but very slow. Nothing major has changed, no new software installed, lots of ram available, lots of disk available. No error messages, nothing in event viewer worth mentioning.

Everything is just much much slower. TSR's running include Aol IM, Msft IM, and that's it. IIS does run as a server for testing web apps, but machine is not a public web server.

Any ideas or tweaks I can try?

For starters, make sure you do the standard things: clear the internet cache, delete *.TMP files, defrag that hard disk and reboot.

Yeah, I have the same prob with a machine. 1.4Ghz, 128Mb RAM, Plenty of disk space, but not running IIS. I have done the above, but still no joy.
Any ideas?

If the main performance lag is in network responses you may like to try forcing the Nic to either Full or Half Duplex letting it auto-negotiate with your switches/hubs tends to cause a lot of performance problems. Check your pagefile size/sizes as well if they are too small that can cause an overall performance lag likewise if they are too large I'm not sure what the recommended size is but I tend to go for twice the ram size plus ten percent. I'm probably commiting some huge microsoft sin but it's always worked well for me.

Problem solved! I upgraded my video drivers and installed the latest version directx. That solved it.

Setting up iis Just need the procedure on a win2k Server
