we experience some problem since three days at job...

we are sharing a printer deskjet hp 6mp, 4 of the pc is using w98 and have no problem to print to printer connect to a w2k pc, a pc with w2k can print ; got "cant connect to printer"

we check user password and privilege, no change
we try to delete and reinstall the printer on problem pc
we create new user in both machine with admin privilege and pasword

still getting the "cant connect to server wich the printer is connect"

all other network function is ok.

we see the pc and printer in netwwork connection

RESUME: 4 user with w98 is Ok but one with w2k cant print .

200MMX is not big but enough to have fun!

Can the problem 2k machine access drive/folder shares on the printer host 2k machine?

just make a test , i gave access to a folder and the faulty PC see it instantly ( folder and file )

P.S: windows is up to date and virus free by norton.

..._ - _ - every trouble shooting begin with power ON !! we always forgot one day. :) HAVE A NICE DAY.

Was the 2k machine able to access the printer 3 days ago before the problem started - or did you just set up the problem 2k machine to access the printer 3 days ago?

thanks wolluf,

the printer was setting about 6 month ago , and no problem till some days .

yesterday i tried to install the same printer with a new "name" ( in the master pc ) and same thing when i try to install it in the "faulty" pc....can' connect to printer, the printer is not connect or you don'have access...

What happened a few days ago? (like anything unusual on the network, you changed any hardware/software).

Can the printer's host PC print to it ok?

How is it connected to PC (parallel, USB..)

Sounds almost like a driver has gone bad. You may need to re-install the printer driver on the problem pc. You might also want to try recycling the power on the printer and reboot the host pc. Also defrag the host pc's hard drive. Just some thughts.

going with pweegar's driver idea (I'd discounted this because of the 'can't connect' message - so assumed it was a network/share problem) - there are occasions when you have to completely remove the existing driver & then reinstall it - because its become corrupted. reinstalling on top is not good enough. I can't remember the error message associated with this problem - but the win2k printer troubleshooter will eventually get to this option, with instructions how to do it.

so - this may not be cause of your problem - but you won't lose anything (apart from a bit of time running the troubleshooter).
