W2K not recognizing CDROM? 1

Using W2K Professional and for some reason it's not recognizing my ATAPI CDROM drive. I am able to open and close the drive. BIOS recognizes the drive. It is set to slave of IDE channel 1 with a HDD set as master. Any suggestions?
