Hello everyone,

I am going to roll out new windows 2000 workstations to our admin dept and because of the way peoplesoft is configured here I need to change the location of the local user environment TEMP and TMP from c:\documents and settings\username\local settings\temp to c:\temp

I would like to do this via group policy or login script so being domain machines it doesnt matter who logs on to the pc but Im not sure how to do it.
Can anyone help please

Oh bye the way its only for the w2k pc`s and not the nt4 pc`s that should not be effected

thanks

Gary

Try rewriting the hkey_users\.default\environment\temp and hkey_users\.default\environment\tmp with a group policy. I also know the environment folder is also in the hkey_current_user as well but these settings should come from the default when the user logs on. I haven't seen anything in the default administrative templates of group policy so you may need to create a custom .ADM file to import to your current administrative template to give you the ability to write these keys. Look in 2000 server help under

users&computers\group policy\concepts\GP overviewusing GP\administrative templates

This section will explain how to create a custom template to add to your current template so you can edit these keys.

Since group policy doesn't affect NT or 9x computers, your policy will only affect the 2k clients. If you add any XP clients, it will affect those too.
