I had to have a shop wipe the small partition on my C drive and reinstall W2k. Before I took it in, I removed all my files etc I wanted to save. The partition was less than 1/2 full. When I got the machine back the partition was still almost 1/2 full without any applications on it, such as Photoshop, Illustrator etc etc. When I start the machine up, it ask me which OS do I want to use, W2k or W2k, each on a separate line. Is this loaded twice in different folders or something? How can I find that out? What is taking up my room here....? Thanks

They either didnt clear your boot.ini, or loaded it twice to allow you to access your files.

Look in your c:\ drive and is there only one WINNT folder, or a WINNT folder, and another one named something similar?

PBX,
Thanks. I have only one winnt folder on my c drive. Just seems very odd. Maybe I need to shut off my brain and just run the machine. Was wondering why it ask me if I want to run w2k or w2k....each on its own line during startup???

If you select the other "win2K" - does your system still boot? If they installed a second copy - they both would boot into windows.
If one of the "win2K" selections doesn't work - they didnt set it up right. In the root of your C:\ drive there is a file called boot.ini.
It is hidden by default, and you'd need to edit that file and delete the incorrect "w2k" line.

A correct Boot.ini for win2k should look like this (assuming Win2K is installed on the first partition and disk on a drive, and is assigned C: drive-letter):

boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT="Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional" /fastdetect
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT="Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional" /fastdetect

these lines wrap-around because the posting window is not wide enough, but those are the contents your Boot.ini needs to have.

Let me know if you need more help editing this file.
