I upgraded an NT 4 server to W2K in an existing NT4 domain. Installed DHCP on the W2K server and it was working fine. I've noticed recently (few days after) that certain nodes are having problems grabbing an IP. Also see that the DHCP server needs to be authorized in the DHCP manager (W2K). Question is, can a W2K DHCP server work in an NT4 domain? Or should I just install DHCP on another NT machine in the domain and forget about putting it on a W2K server?

There must be NO problems running W2kDHCP in WinNT domain. Probably the problem can arise when the clients can not find DHCP server that locates in other subnet. Check those settings first. Second, always remember, that W2k relies on DNS, while WNT relies on NetBIOS. So, do not disable NetBIOS on W2k PC. Third: on a problematic clients , the best stuff is to use a sniffer to grab a traffic and to discover the source of the problem of why they did not receive an ip info from W2k DHCP.

Good luck!
