Greetings,

please, run somebody W2003 server + FoxPro 2.5 DOS + W98 or W2003 server + FoxPro 2.5 DOS + W95 under heavy data access (f.e. 10 stations with same Fox/DOS application)?

Our client moved back from W2003 to NT 4.0, because all worked fine few minutes, but later usually user received messages like "File is in use by another". When other users leaved application, the problem has continuing and it was necessary to restart machines.

Thanks.

The error mesage:
"File is in use by another"

Has nothing to do with the Operating System.

It is an indication that users are attempting to use data tables EXCLUSIVE and when one person has a table open, the others cannot get access to that table.

First I would ensure that your FP application is not using data tables EXCLUSIVE by either issuing the SET EXCLUSIVE ON command
or by opening individual tables with something like:
USE MyTable IN 0 EXCLUSIVE

If you have made certain that EXCLUSIVE is not an issue, then FP may be issuing an incorrect error message and the problem is elsewhere.

Let us know what you find about EXCLUSIVE.

Good Luck,

Customer worked without problems on NT 4.0, then he moved to W2003 and had problems, then he moved back and has no problem now.
