The key words on that page are "is introducing", implying a future action. SP2 is still in BETA testing for release sometime in the several months, probably less than 6.

I think the Windows 2003 Server may be a misprint.

SP1a for WinXP is the latest.

Blujacket,
Why do you say that Windows 2003 Server is a misprint?

As a guess, it was a guess.

The MSI for Service Pack #2 does make slight adjustments between Home, Pro, and Win2003 Server. Between XP pro and Win 2003 server I have not seen any adjustments, but I did not track this carefully, and we are still talking BETA.

I think that bluejacket read the 'Supported Operating Systems' line as implyinjg only Server Windows 2003. This strickes me as a misprint as well.

Normally you get an exhaustive listing of supported OS versions for a fix, even with installer ability to tell the difference.

cdogg does make a good point: there are a lot of versions of the Service Pack 2 out there. As far as I know the "best" would be the version released as a trial to the MSDN community.

All would be better off asking for help on a specific problem here, then downoading and applying even a legitimate copy of Service Pack #2. The MSDN community gets frequent updates. Your download source does not.

It is not worth playing with. Most MSDN subscribers to not think it is worth playing with at the moment.

Just wait.

I guessed at the misprint part because the page refers to "Changes to Functionality in Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2" but the following toward the bottom of that page doesn't mention Windows XP:

System Requirements
Supported Operating Systems: Windows Server 2003

Microsoft Word or Word Viewer

Bluejacket,

I understood where you were drawing the conclusion, and it was not even half wrong.

From what I have seen and for what I can say about it, it is adaptive, and as I mentioned above there are not a whole lot of Windows 2003 Server - specific changes that I can see from what are patches to XP Professional.

Thanks all for your input!

But is there a way of somewhat storing winxp hotfixes somewhere?

Everyday i get 1-3 PCs to reformat and reinstall winxp. The CDs already got sp1 so 'slipsstreamed' would not apply in my case. And so I need to windowsupdate each PC individually each time and since I've got a poor internet connection this it really time-consuming for me!

Thanks for any suggestions!

1. Create a new folder to hold the Hotfixes.

2. On the Windows Update site select "Personalize Windows Update" and select to add the Windows Update Catalog. Use the Catalogue to find, select and download any hotfix.

Or go there directly:
3. You would benefit downloading the "Rollup" Hotfix packages:

XP Hotfix Rollup:

XP Kernel Rollup:

4. You can combine Hotfixes to make them install more easily:
5. You can use the trick in #4 to create a new slipstream for situations in which you are installing the Operating System on a new machine:
