On our Network which consists in Windows 2000 servers (IP only), Netware 4.11 servers (IPX only) and ca 1000 W9x PCs we recently added 300 WXP Pro PCs with the MS Client and the Novell Netware 4.90 SP2 client (IPX only).
Things seem to be different on the network now : more traffic, and differences on windows XP : here's what's going on...

1 - At startup stations (Windows XP) send multicast frames (IGMP at 224.0.0.22 and Service Location Protocol at 224.0.1.35): how to suppress these (never used)?
2 - At startup registration (IP Protocol)of the netbios name (<00>), but frames sent first broadcast and then to the WINS server ; How to suppress broadcast frames ?
3 - At startup check name DomainName<00> (IPX Broadcast) and registration DomainName<00> (IP Broadcast then IP towards WINS server which responds) : How to suppress unnecessary traffic (only IP towards WINS server needed) ?
4 - At startup, tries to resolve Netbios names (<20>) using IP Broadcast and IPX broadcast...

Anybody an idea ?
Where to find precise networking dialogs explanations ?
