vti_ public folders

In our public Folders in Exchange several folders beginning with vti_ have appeared (vti_cnf vti_pvt etc). I know these are to do with Frontpage extensions and I am unsure as to why they are in Public Folders.

I wan't to know if it is safe to delete these? We use OWA and I was unsure if it was something to do with this.

Thanks for any help.
